Newsletter

Welcome to the final edition of the SAFIPA newsletter.  The month of November 2011, marks the conclusion of this dynamic initiative.

Although it is with sadness that we bid our readers a farewell, we end this series of newsletters with a jam-packed, 24-page edition that covers the SAFIPA 2011 Conference which was held on the 19 and 20 October this year.  This event proved to be a fitting conclusion to the SAFIPA programme, with over 250 delegates attending from South Africa and around the world.

As SAFIPA is a partnership between stakeholders in both South Africa and Finland, a contingency from  Finnish Embassies in the region and partner programmes attended the conference, along with their regional counterparts from Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana and Vietnam .  The conference also attracted national representation with delegates from the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Limpopo Province in attendance, many of which represented SAFIPA project implementation partners and beneficiary organisations.

The SAFIPA team, led by Thiru Naidoo-Swettenham, worked tirelessly to ensure that the conference was a success, accurately reflecting the work that the programme has undertaken over its lifetime.

Some of the stories in this months edition are as follows:

  1. Project partners pay tribute to SAFIPA:  Commentary on SAFIPA programme by partners from within the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Science and Technology and the CSIR Meraka Institute.
  2. Looking ahead:  The dialogue between MFA and southern Africa manifests in exciting initiatives
  3. “This is what we’re doing and this is how we’re doing it” Part 1:  SAFIPA projects on technology commercialisation
  4. “This is what we’re doing and this is how we’re doing it” Part 2:   SAFIPA projects show solutions to improving service delivery for rural development
