The definition of ICT in Education goes far beyond that of a traditional computer connected to a network – it encompasses a whole realm of new technologies, including human language technologies, “smart” devices, wireless and handheld devices amongst many others. It focuses specifically on the application of these technologies in an educational context and environment, and should thus be seen as a tool or platform to support education, not an end in itself.

The SAFIPA Programme supports a number of educational projects that use ICTs to empower learners and students, provide platforms for educator resource collaboration and provide opportunities for skills-sharing and training. These projects use ICTs in ways that are relevant in the local context and include delivery via web, networks and mobile telephony.

This is the final edition of the SAFIPA newsletter. The month of November 2011, marks the conclusion of this dynamic initiative.
